Jackson trial reset for October

The trial of Laurence Jackson of Harlem, charged with deliberate homicide in the death of a Blaine County sheriff's deputy, has been delayed until October.

District Judge John McKeon on Tuesday ordered the trial date changed to Oct. 12 to give the defense more time to conduct DNA tests on evidence. McKeon also agreed to allow the defense to appoint an orthodontist as an expert witness.

Jackson's trial had been scheduled for June 7 in Missoula. The prosecution is planning to seek the death penalty if Jackson is convicted.
