Local photographer displays work at Clack Museum

Havre native Amber Rose D'Hooge, a student at the University of Montana and formerly a photojournalist for the Havre Daily News, is exhibiting her work at the H. Earl Clack Museum.

The exhibit will run through Aug. 16 at the museum, located in the Heritage Center in downtown Havre. The hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

D'Hooge wrote this statement about her exhibit, called "Frame of Origin: A Visual Journey to the Foundations of Our Home":

What do you see when you look through your frame of origin?

You open your heart, and before your eyes it appears. All that is, and all that was. And sometimes, if you are quiet, those things that will be.

As children, we are taught of this frame.

As adults, we begin to know the truth.

Often our frame is cracked. Rather than to embrace and look through this frame of origin we are taught to look away. Taught to have shame.

The honest education of our people is crucial to our survival. When our frames of origin are hurt, we might join together to heal. Not isolate to construct new and false foundations.

This exhibit is a journey through my own frame of origin. It does not belong to me, but is meant to be shared as part of you.

Here you will see the stories of people who call this place home, and also the homes of people who have passed on. You may even see a great mountain, vast plain or desolate tree that someone before you passed by.

Every place and every person carries a story. If we listen to their image we might come to better know ourselves.

In this knowing we may create a greater home for our children. So that they may one day look through their frame of origin with pride.

Tear down your walls. Listen for your truth. And stand tall with the foundation of our home.
