Newell gets lead role in musical

Nate Newell, a 1999 graduate of Havre High School, has been cast in the lead role of an upcoming play at one of Pennsylvania's oldest continuously performing community theaters.

Newell, who is living and working in Pittsburgh, Pa., auditioned in mid-July and was cast for the role of George Cohan in the Broadway tap-dancing, patriotic musical "George M!" at the New Kensington Civic Theatre in New Kensington. "George M!" is the musical story about songwriter George M. Cohan, the "man who owned Broadway." The show includes many well-known patriotic songs like "You're a Grand Old Flag," "Yankee Doodle Dandy," and "Give My Regards to Broadway."

Scheduled to run Oct. 7-10, "George M!" will be the first show of the 59th season of the New Kensington Civic Theatre.

Since graduating from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa., in May of 2003, Newell has performed in a number of community theater productions in the Pittsburgh area, including, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change," "Clue, The Musical," and "Isn't It Romantic?"
