Giving local talent a chance to shine

The Havre Jaycees Community Talent Show will be held for the first time from 5-8 p.m. Saturday in the Havre High School Auditorium. "We haven't seen (a talent show) or heard of one for ages and thought it'd be fun for the community to come together and showcase their talents," said Jaycee President Amanda Laeupple. A pre-screening of the show will take place Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the HHS Auditorium for anyone who wishes to participate in the event. "Anyone and everyone ... who has a Talent or just likes to be on stage," can participate in the show, Laeupple said. There is no time minimum or maximum for acts, she added. While there is no age limit, acts will be broken into eighthgrade age and down and ninthgrade age and up. The younger category will perform first and the older participants will follow. "I'm hoping to get at least 15 acts, if not more," event chairperson T. J. Daulton said Monday. "Hopefully it just kind of grows from there the next couple of years," he added. Daulton sees the event as an opportunity to raise money for the March of Dimes, he said. The Havre Jaycees, an awardwinning chapter of United States Junior Chamber, strive to create a community based on shared values and the hope for positive change through faith, brotherhood and justice. They are also involved in other community events including Relay for Life, Toys for Tots/Koats for Kids, Havre's Fourth of July Night Display, the Great Northern Fair demolition derby and the Easter egg hunt. The talent show is a new venture for the club, which is focused on becoming more involved this year. "We have no clue where we will end up this year, but we will end up far and beyond all the places that we have gone ... ," Laeupple said earlier this year.
