The recruiting season is heating up for the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team and head coach Shawn Huse. Last week, Huse announced the signing of Missoula Big Sky guard Mike LaValley to an NAIA national letter of intent. LaValley (6-0) was a twotime Class AA All-State point guard, earning first-team honors this season as he helped the Eagles to the Class AA state tournament. He also earned second-team honors as a junior and was a two-time all-conference selection. This past season, LaValley averaged 14.1 points per game which was sixth in AA. He also led AA in steals and was fourth in assists at 3.8 per game. "We are very excited Mike chose to be a Light as he is an extremely tough competitor at the point guard position," Huse said. "He sees the floor and can score very well, plays tremendous defense, and most importantly has a team-first mentality. With his high character level, and as he grows accustom to the college game, he has the potential to be a strong leader in our program one day. He is already a very good communicator, has a great attitude and an outstanding work ethic. That combination alone makes him a tremendous asset as a future Lights point guard."
