MARIAN A. BACHINI obituary

Marian A. Bachini, 83, died Monday May 25, 2009, after a four-year battle with multiple myeloma at a Billings Clinic Hospital.

Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael O'Hearn officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles immediately after the services at the graveside. Memorials in Marian's honor may be made to the MSU-Northern Foundation for nursing scholarships, P.O. Box 1691, Havre, MT 59501. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Marian was born March 25, 1926, the sixth child of Einar and Agnes Niemi. Her parents were Swedish immigrants living in Red Lodge, Mont. She graduated from Red Lodge High School in 1943 and entered nurses training in Billings at the Montana Consolidated School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse. On July 1, 1943, Marian joined the Cadet Nurses Corps, a branch of the United States Public Health and military, during the war. This cadet nurses program was established to alleviate the nursing shortage and the last six months of practice was to be where the need was the greatest. Marian was sent to Havre in January 1946 to complete her last six months of the program at the Kennedy Deaconess Hospital in Havre where the nursing shortage was critical. This is where Marian met Frank Bachini. The couple married Nov. 30, 1946. Marian continued to work at the Kennedy Deaconess Hospital until the move to the new building which is now Northern Montana Hospital. She worked both places over a span of 43 years and retired from nursing in 1988. After retirement Marian served as a nursing consultant to the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook and the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in Havre. Marian started working with the senior connection in 1994 working in the foot clinic program. In her spare time, Marian loved to paint and spend quality time with her family. She always enjoyed listening to her sons' stories and she was famous for making her cinnamon rolls with her special caramel sauce. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting. She was a very positive person who had wonderful advice full of care and compassion. Marian was a member of the Montana Nurses Association for more than 30 years and also was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and Northern Montana Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Bachini and five siblings. Marian is survived by her three sons, Kenneth (Cathy) Bachini, James Bachini and Alan Bachini, all of Havre, Mont.; one sister, LaVerna Pilati of Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
