Blue Pony spring athletes honored

It was a successful spring sports season at Havre High School. Track and field, tennis and softball all competed on the last weekend of the season, and athletes in all three sports were rewarded for their efforts. All three sports held their annual awards night on Monday at HHS. On the HHS boys squad, the Pony track team was led by seniors Kaden Keto and Mike Hickman, both earning the CO-MVP award. And earning the Vukasin Scholarship award was Ethan Flathers, while John Perrodin earned the Adams Scholarship award. And for the HHS girls, it was Sarah Blessum who earned the MVP award, while Mikell Kinsella came through as the Top Newcomer. Meanwhile, The Pony softball team earned their keep during the season as well. Along with the team awards, four girls were selected second team Western A All Conference, two were selected first team Western A All Conference and one was selected Class A All State. Making second team All Conference were senior Karly Evans as a pitcher, senior Natalie Kato as a first basemen, junior Kelli Kelsey as a second basemen and junior Holly Cartwright as a third baseman. And earning first team honors was senior Samantha Mack as a shortstop and junior Tabby Myers as on outfielder. And it was senior Samantha Mack, after a standout season for the Ponies who earned Class A All State honors for the Pony softball program which reached the Class A state tournament last month. For the team awards, sophomore Cortney Bricker ended the season as the rookie of the year, while Kato also took home most improved. The defensive player award went to Cartwright and the offensive player award went to Mack, who also took home the MVP award and the Whitney Schwan Most Inspirational award. And rounding off the HHS softball awards, Evans earned the best ERA award, while Abigail Ita took home the coaches award. And on Monday night, HHS celebrated a great end to the tennis season. The Blue Pony girls captured their secondever Class A state champion this spring and the HHS boys were second. On the girls side, state champion doubles players Hayley Donovan and Courtney Kinholt, as well as Class A runners-up Morgan McCann and Jolee Landgraf were all honored with the Most Outstanding Player Award, while sophomore Christina Mack was named Most Improved Player and senior Mikaela Lipp was named Most Inspirational. On the boys side, state champion doubles players Mason Sheppard and Kyle Miller, along with Class A thirdplace singles player Shane Kemmer were all given the Most Outstanding Player Award. Sophomore Keenan Dolezal was named Most Improved and freshman Simon McCann was named Most Inspirational. The HHS Athlete of the Year Award was also given out on Monday night. The boys award went to Mike Hickman and the girls award went to Sarah Blessum.
