Betty Jane McMahan, 76, died June 28, 2009, at the Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Cremation has taken place, and at her request no services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Betty Jane was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Lincoln, Neb., to Lawrence and Molly (Vettengl) Kierstine. She moved to Oregon with her family when she was a young girl and graduated from Eugene High School. Betty married James W. McMahan, and the couple had one son. They traveled all over the United States due to James' military career. Betty always made a home wherever they were. She enjoyed her family and her art work. Betty moved to Havre in June 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James W. McMahan and her brother, Larry Kierstine. Betty is survived by her son, Steve and wife Ellen McMahan of Havre, Mont.; her granddaughter, Christi (Charles) Kolczak of Havre, Mont.; and one great-granddaughter, Sonya McMahan of Havre, Mont.; and her brother, Glen Kierstine.
