The Havre All Stars Babe Ruth baseball team may hold home field advantage, but in their first game of the Montana Babe Ruth State Baseball Tournament, Havre didn't get the results it was looking for. On Wednesday night, Havre faced the Kalispell All Stars at Legion Feild and struggled. And in doing so, Kalispell defeated Havre 11-0 in five innings of play. The big story from Wednesday night's game was pitching, and Kalispell had it while Havre didn't. Thurman Holdsclaw started on the mound for Havre and pitched for two and a third innings. He walked four Kalispell batters and hit one, but allowed only one run on a wild pitch. Holdsclaw also had two strikeouts. In the third inning, Nick Owens relieved Holdsclaw from his pitching duty and also fought to find the strike zone. In Owens two and two thirds innings of work, he allowed 10 runs on eight walks, one error, a passed ball, five hits and a wild pitch. Sid Schenck took the mound for Kalispell and pitched a complete game, one-hitter. And the one hit came in the first inning by leadoff batter Logan Connor. From then on, Schenck dominated the Havre bats. In Schenck's five innings of work, he allowed only one walk, and struck out 13. Havre kept the game close through two innings of play, but in the third Kalispell built on their 1-0 lead. The third inning brought Kalispell five runs on two hits, four walks and a Havre error. But the most damage came in the fourth inning when Kalispell stretched the lead to 11-0. They added six more runs on three hits, four walks and a wild pitch. In other Wednesday matchups, South Valley Bitterroot defeated Kalispell 14- 8, Glacier defeated North Valley 11-1 and Mission Valley defeated Northern Golden Triangle 9-4. And today brings six more games to Legion Field. Northern Golden Triangle faces Glacier at 8 a.m., Bozeman faces South Valley Bitterroot at 12 p.m., Kalispell faces Hi-Line at 2 p.m, Mission Valley faces Glendive at 4 p.m. and Havre will take on Bozeman at 7 p.m. to close out day two. Opening ceremony events and a picnic will also take place at 6 p.m. tonight.
