GEORGE ROBERT SCOFIELD obituary

George Robert “G-Bob” Scofield, 58, loving father and grandfather, of Chinook, passed away at his residence, Monday, July 13, 2009, due to an accidental gunshot wound while target practicing.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m.Tuesday, July 21, at the Chinook Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Mike Bradley officiating. Cremation has taken place. A fellowship reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. A private family burial will take place at a later date. George was born Aug. 2, 1950, in Poplar, Mont., to Lloyd “Bozo” and Marlys (Taylor) Scofield. He grew up in Havre and attended schools in Havre. He was a member of the Havre Blue Ponies 1969 wrestling team which won the state championship. He entered the U.S. Army in March 1970. He was a heavy equipment repairman and served with the combat engineers. While serving in Vietnam he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. His citation stated that he “consistently manifested exemplary professionalism and initiative in obtaining outstanding results. His rapid assessment and solution of numerous problems inherent in a combat environment greatly enhanced the allied effectiveness against a determined and aggressive enemy.” After serving in the military, he spent time in California before returning to Montana. During his adult life he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and a ranch hand. He enjoyed softball, hunting, working with horses and dancing. He liked the outdoors and the ranch life. He was very fond of his horses and dogs. He loved playing with his grandkids and spending time with family and friends. George is survived by special friend Meredy Phares; daughters, Aubrie (Dan) Kallenberger, of Havre, Stacy (Michael) Ladnier of Corona, Calif., Bobbie (Daryl) Mitchell of Chinook, and Gabrielle (Kody) Peterson of Kremlin; sons, Bobby Scofield of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tyler Scofield of Chinook, and Todd (Marcie) Phares; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Duane (Debbie) Scofield of Murrieta, Calif., Robert (Jean) Scofield of Havre, Ronald (Peggy) Ray of Warrick; and sister, Beverly (Ed) Boucher of Havre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd “Bozo” and Marlys (Taylor) Scofield.
