George Ferguson Havre Daily News sports editor [email protected]

The Havre Jaycee's Annual Demolition Derby is always the event that closes out sports action every year at the Great Northern Fair. And the 2009 version of the demolition derby did just that and with a bang, too. Several close calls and great smash-ups highlighted yet another great Jaycee's derby Sunday night at the Great Northern Fairgrounds in Havre. Ryan Erickson captured first place in the championship heat Sunday night, taking home the top prize for the year. Erickson qualified for the finals by being voted the Most Aggressive driver, and then went on to win the final heat of the night. Scott Skoyen was second in the championship heat, and Kyle Reynolds was third. Reynolds and Skoyen both won preliminary heats earlier in the night as did Brandon Melby and Mark Gooch. In the consolation heats, Jim Brandon and Duke Thomas were top drivers in the first heat, while Willard Hinkle and Matt Langford topped the second consolation heat. The Annual Herby Derby saw Rob Harkins take home first place and Daniel Kloppenburg finish second.
