Car chase through Hill County

Hill County Sheriff's deputies chased James Taylor Marshall across Hill County to the junction of U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 87 Friday. Initially, deputies searched for Taylor, a transient with no permanent address, because they had received a report of a drunk driver. When they tried to pull him over, he continued to drive. "He was in a vehicle that had been stolen," Hill County Sheriff Don Brostrom said this morning. There is also suspicion that Marshall stole another vehicle before the one he was apprehended in, Brostrom added. To stop Marshall and the chase that commenced near Big Sandy Brostrom said stop sticks were used twice and that at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 87, the vehicle went across the median and into the ditch. Marshall, now in custody at the Hill County Detention Center, was arrested on three charges of assault on a peace or judicial officer, two charges of motor vehicle theft and charges of criminal endangerment, driving under the influence of intoxicants, obstructing a peace officer or other public servant, driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license and assault with a weapon. Brostrom this morning said he did not know the speed of the chase. The sheriff's office was assisted by Havre City Police and the state Highway Patrol. The case is still under investigation, Brostrom said, adding that the information will be given to the Hill County Attorney's office for charges to be formally filed.
