Oklahoma sets $500,000 bail for couple

DURANT, Okla. (AP)

A couple accused of digging up the body of their 12-year-old daughter and moving her remains to two states are in custody in Oklahoma on $500,000 bond. Thirty-five-year-old Abel Wolf and 40-year-old Denise Ann Wolf made initial court appearances Monday in Bryan County District Court, where they are charged with one count each of unlawful removal of a dead body. The couple, who arrived in Durant from Havre early Sunday, is suspected of burying the girl's corpse, then unearthing the remains and moving them to Montana and Oregon. A cause of death hasn't been determined. Oregon investigators have said autopsy results on the remains found in a rental storage unit are consistent with the medical history of Abel Wolf's missing daughter, Cheyenne, but the identity needs to be confirmed through dental records. The couple will return to court on Aug. 12, but additional charges could be placed before then, according to Sheriff Bill Sturch. "I'm just going by what I'm hearing from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. What I'm hearing is there will be some other charges. I don't know exactly what, but we'll wait and see,” the sheri f f told the Oklahoman newspaper i n Oklahoma City. The OSBI is awaiting a final medical examiner's report before sending its final report to the district attorney, said OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown. Oregon medical examiners have not yet released a cause of death. "All I can say at this point is they are investigating those circumstances, and I hope the medical examiner's evaluation helps shed some light,” Bryan County District Attorney Emily Redman said.
