Man dies in crash north of Havre

Alice Campbell Havre Daily News [email protected]

A crash Wednesday evening left one dead and one injured. Montana Highway Patrol reports that Joel Bell of Havre, 49, was killed in the crash, and Robert Shephert of Havre, 40, sustained injuries and was transported to Northern Montana Hospital after the crash. Both were ejected from the Chevrolet Camero that was traveling southbound on Wildhorse Road shortly after 7 p.m. when the driver drifted into the path of traffic in the northbound lane, according to a fatality crash report from the Montana Highway Patrol. After the driver overcorrected the vehicle, it spun clockwise and slid sideways through the ditch on the western edge of the road. The vehicle flipped 2 1/2 times before coming to rest on its top. Neither man was wearing a seat belt. It is unknown whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The road condition was listed as dry in the report. Multiple requests for information concerning Shephert's condition from NMH were not answered by deadline this morning.
