EDWARD HANEL obituary

Edward Hanel, 77, passed away Sept. 16, 2009, in his home in Havre, Mont., after a courageous battle with cancer.

Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests memorial contributions in Edward's honor be made to the local Cancer Society or to local food banks. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Edward was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Dickenson, N.D., to Venzel and Amelia (BraBlec) Hanel. He was raised on a farm near New Hradeck, N.D. Ed married Doris Godlevsky in October 1952. The couple lived in Dickenson, N.D. for a short time, and then moved to Livingston, Mont., where Ed went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Ed and Doris raised their two daughters there. The couple moved to Laurel, Mont., in the mid- 1980's when the railroad sold out and Ed had to relocate with Burlington Northern Railroad, where Ed worked until he retired in January 1987. After retiring, the couple moved to Havre, Mont., to be closer to his two daughters and their families. Edward's life was all about his family. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, canning and playing cards. He spent all the time he could with his two daughters and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters. Edward is survived by his wife, Doris Hanel of Havre, Mont.; two daughters, Marlene (Michael) Lambert of Scobey, Mont., and Diane Iverson of Havre, Mont.;. two grandchildren, John (Kimberlee) Iverson of Havre, Mont. And Brenda Iverson of Great Falls, Mont.; one great-grandson, John Richard Iverson Jr. Of Havre, Mont.; two step-grandsons, Michael Jr. And Doug Lambert of Scobey, Mont.; a sister. Georgie Meduna of Dickenson, N.D., and several nieces and nephews.
