Sugarbeeters sweep 6C East rivals

The volleyball season is really starting to take shape on the Hi-Line. And things got started off with plenty of excitement last Thursday as North Star and Big Sandy played an epic thriller in Rudyard. The visiting Pioneers took over first place in the District 6C East standings by outlasting the Knights, who were down 2-1 to Big Sandy late in the match. The Pioneers won by scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-12, 13-25, 15-13. Suzy Faber had a huge match for Big Sandy totaling 12 kills, 15 digs and 10 blocks. Amber Amsbaugh had 20 digs for the Pioneers also had 12 aces. North Star was paced by Britnee Dyrland who had seven kills, two aces and seven blocks, while Bridjour Han added nine digs and three aces. Thursday night also saw Chester/ J-I race past Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-15, 25-8 and 25-10, and Rocky Boy fall to Fairfield by scores of 25-7, 25-5 and 25-13 in District 1B action. Friday night was redemption time for the Knights, who rebounded from their heartbreaking loss to Big Sandy by outlasting Geraldine in another five games in Gildford. The Knights beat the Tigers by scores of 20-25, 23-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 15-7, coming all the way back from a 2-0 deficit. Dyrland racked up 17 digs, 15 kills and six blocks for North Star, while Sarah Helmbrecht had six blocks and two aces. Friday night also saw Chinook take down Box Elder in three games by scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-10, while C/J-I took care of Power 25-21, 25-12 and 25-10. The Sugarbeeters got seven kills form Alyssa Brown and 20 assists and three aces from Katie Diemert, while the Bears were led by Shayla Beaumont's three kills and three aces. Against Power, the Hawks got eight kills and nine aces from Courtney Vinson. Rocky Boy also dropped its second straight 1B match of the weekend. On Friday night, the Morning Stars were downed by Shelby by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-17 in Rocky Boy. The Morning Stars got four kills and six aces from Shanise Gamble in the loss. And as if things weren't exciting enough in the 6C East this weekend, Saturday saw the Beeters turn around and knock off Big Sandy in four games in Chinook. The Beeters beat the Pioneers by scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-15 and 28-26. Alyssa Brown led the way for Chinook with five kills, while Shanni Johnson had 10 digs and two aces. The Pioneers were led by Suzy Fabers' 10 kills and seven blocks. Mackenzie Jenkins added 17 assists and six aces in the loss.
