Ester Louise Brendgord, 94, died Monday evening at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.
Her viewing will be 1 to 4 p.m. at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with Ila McClenahan officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorials in Ester's honor may be made to Northern Montana Care Center Chapel Fund C/O NMH, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Ester was born June 10, 1915, in Chappell, Neb. To Charles and Cora Lynn (Wales) Tate. As a young child her family moved to Idaho, then to Malta, Mont. Ester graduated from Malta High School. She moved to Havre to attend Kennedy Deaconess School of Nursing, where she graduated from in 1936 with her nursing degree. In her early nursing career she worked as a private nurse, then at the newly formed Havre Clinic. She worked for the Deaconess Hospital many years. She also continued nursing with Northern Montana Hospital when the two hospitals merged. Ester was very dedicated to her nursing career. In 1937 Ester married Arleigh Brendgord. They had a daughter, Lynn, and a son, Jon. They were among the first families who would go camping, in the days before all of the modern conveniences. Every year her graduating nursing class would have a reunion. She always enjoyed seeing her classmates. Ester always worked hard, besides her nursing, being a homemaker, gardener, cook and she was a excellent seamstress. Arleigh died in 1978. After Arleigh died Ester continued to drive her motorhome to Arizona and Nevada to visit her half-sister and brother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arleigh Brendgord in 1978; her son, Jon Brendgord in 1994; sisters, Laura Woodbury, Margaret Rasmussen and Evangeline Sklstead; her grandson, Charles Roll; and her half- brother, Wesley Tate. Ester is survived by her daughter, Lynn Roll Nelson of Havre, Mont.; granddaughter, Joan E. Roll of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandchildren, Kristin and Keri Roll of Havre, Mont.; a half-brother, David (Betty) Tate of Mesa, Ariz.; and great-great-granddaughter, Chole Roll of Havre, Mont.
