The 2009 Class A state golf tournament will forever be remembered as one the weather just wouldn't cooperate with. But Havre High senior Brett Normandy will remember the tourney for a different reason. On Tuesday afternoon at Whitefish Lake Golf Club in Whitefish, Normandy completed an 18-hole round of 88 and a final 9-hole round of 38 to finish the weather-shortened tournament with a 126 total. Normandy finished tied for 10th overall, earning Class A All State honors in is his final outing as a Blue Pony. Normandy's numbers over the course of two days were outstanding considering the conditions and the uncertainty of when play would continue, be stopped or if the tournament was going to finish at all. The tournament was moved from Kalispell to Whitefish because of snow, then the first day started late do to cold and frost, and play was halted because of darkness late on Monday. Weather continued to be sketchy on Tuesday, so the second round was shortened to just nine holes. Normandy finished just 13 strokes behind state champion Reed Platke of Whitefish. The Bulldogs took four of the Top 10 individual spots over the weekend and easily captured another state team title with their 473 total. Hamilton was a distant second at 513 and Laurel finished third at 522. Weather also plagued the Havre High girls team, consisting of senior Courtney Kinholt and junior Rebekah Martin. Kinholt recorded rounds of 112 and 50 for a 162 total and Martin shot 117 and 69 for a 186 final score. Sidney's Katelyn Frank shot finished with a 116 total to earn the individual state championship on the girls side, while the Eastern A swept the trophies. Billings Central captured the girls team title with a 536, while Sidney was second and Laurel was third.
