It's do or die time for area volleyball teams along the Hi-Line. The longawaited postseason has arrived. But here's a look back at the last weekend of regular season competition. On Thursday night, the Malta Mustangs thrashed the District 2B Harlem Wildcats 25-21, 25-2 and 25-8. In the loss, Raelynn Rider paced Harlem with three kills and four blocks. After two wins early in the week over District 6C West foe Heart Butte, the Chester/J-I Hawks stayed hot with an upset over the North Star Knights Thursday in Chester. The Hawks beat the Knights by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 9-25 and 15-9 in a five-game marathon. Larisa Lybeck had four kills and a block for the Hawks, while Jenni Ghekiere added three 10 kills and 15 digs and Kelsey Han had nine kills. North Star got a match-high 18 kills and three blocks from Britnee Dyrland in the loss. Thursday night also saw Chinook keep rolling with a three-game sweep of Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-9, 25- 13 and 25-17. Earlier in the week, the Beeters upset Class B Malta in five games by scores of 25-25, 21-25, 25-10, 25-13 and 25-11. In the dramatic win, Chinook got nine kills, two blocks and one ace from Kayla Hanson, while Alyssa Brown added nine kills. On Friday night, the Knights rebounded from their loss to C/J-I with a 25-16, 25-6, 25-14 win over Box Elder in a 6C East match. Dyrland had eight kills, four blocks and four aces for the Knights, while Bridjour Han and Tande Smith had six digs apiece. Meanwhile, in Hays on Friday night, the Big Sandy Pioneers trounced the HLP Thunderbirds by scores of 25- 10, 25-12 and 25-17. The Pioneers were led by Suzy Faber with eight kills and six digs, while Hannah Williams had nine aces. HLP got four kills from Shakayla Whitecow. On Saturday, the big 6C East match was in Big Sandy, but it was visiting Chinook that walked away with a win and the regular season league title. The Beeters beat the Pioneers by scores of 25-15, 24-26, 25-15 and 25-23. Kayla Hanson had nine kills and Katie Diemert had 32 assists for the Beeters, while the Pioneers got 16 kills and 14 blocks from Suzy Faber. Quartnee Owen and Mariah Gullickson had 11 digs each for Big Sandy as the Pioneers finished third in the 6C East. Saturday also saw Box Elder close out its season with a nonconference win over Great Falls Central. The Bears beat the Mustangs by scores of 18-25, 25-16, 25-22, 22-25 and 16-14. The Bears were led to victory by Aricka Wolf Chief with six kills and 10 digs, while Vicki Morning had 11 assists. Things didn't go as well for C/J-I on Saturday as the Hawks were beaten by Dutton-Brady in five games by scores of 25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 19-25 and 15-12. C/J-I got 15 kills from Jenni Ghekiere and five aces from Courtney Vinson in its final regular season match. In Class B action on Saturday, Harlem and Rocky Boy both ended the regular season with losses. In Harlem, Plentywood beat Harlem by scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-14. Harlem five kills from Shay Martin and four blocks from Jasmine Dumas in the loss. Meanwhile, in Choteau, the Bulldogs beat Rocky Boy 25-9, 25-9 and 25-5. In their last match of the regular season, the Morning Stars were paced by Shanise Gambles' six blocks and one ace. Now, teams will prepare for district tournaments starting Thursday. The 6C East tourney will take place in Chinook and the 6C West in Simms. The 1B tourney is in Choteau and the 2B is in Glasgow.
