MARION R MARTIN obituary

Marion R. Martin, 86, of Havre died of natural causes Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Park Forest, Ill.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Heartland Memorial Funeral Home in Park Forest. His funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havre Saturday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery and then a luncheon will be held at the church. Marion was born May 23, 1923, in Rock Lake, N.D., to Dougal and Maude (Olafson) Martin, farming north of Rock Lake. He graduated from Sarles High School in Sarles, N.D., in 1941. Drafted into World War II, he served with the 1st Armored Division in the European Theater and was part of the Allied invasion forces that liberated Italy. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in battle. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. After the war, he moved to Havre where he met Lorine Clikeman. They married Sept. 12, 1950. Marion worked for Ryan Mercantile as a warehouse foreman for 25 years. He went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad as a clerk, retiring in 1988. His first wife, Lorine, died in 1995 after 45 years of marriage. In 1997, he married Doris Bauer and divided his time between Havre and Park Forest, Ill. He was a past president of the Montana District of the Lutheran Layman's League, andpast president of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havre. He was an avid gardner and enjoyed carpentrye work. He is survived by his wife, Doris Bauer-Martin; two sons, Richard (Jeanne) Martin of Kremlin and Randall (Laura) Martin of Havre; a daughter, Dr. Paula Martin of Dickinson, N.D.; a sister, Mary Lee of Malta; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two sons, James Lynn and Robert Dougal Martin; his first wife, Lorine (Clikeman); and his brother, William Martin.
