Fort Hood victim is laid to rest

CAMERON, Texas (AP)

A physician assistant killed in the Fort Hood shooting spree, 62-year-old Michael Grant Cahill, was given a 21-gun salute during his funeral. Cahill, a graduate of Northern Montana College in the 1970s, now Montana State Univesity-Northern, has maintained his ties to Havre over the years. More than 500 of Cahill's family members and friends attended Sunday's funeral mass at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Cameron. Cahill was among 13 people killed when an Army psychiatrist allegedly opened fire on fellow soldiers Nov. 5 at the Texas military base. More than two dozen were wounded in the attack. The Austin American-Statesman reports six soldiers carried out Cahill's coffin amid the 21-gun salute. Speaking for the family, Cahill's sister-in-law, Susan Murphy, told the audience how much he would be missed.
