Dazzle Dean (Mott) Moore, 79, died peacefully Nov. 11 at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.

A memorial service will be held at Northern Montana Care Center on Monday, Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. at A L Bennett Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, Va, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Fort Belknap. The family requests donations to her favorite charities; American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook and A L Bennett Funeral Home of Fredericksburg, Va. Dazzle was born on Dec. 22, 1929, in Stuttgart, Ark., to James and Willie Mae (Suggs) Mott. She graduated from Holman High School, where she wrote the lyrics to the school song. She subsequently graduated from Shorter Junior College, Philander Smith College and University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Graduate School. She taught elementary school throughout Arkansas and Mississippi for 47 years. She retired to care for her elderly parents. She was a member of Union AME Church in Little Rock, Ark. For 40 years. She moved to Montana to live with her only daughter in 2000 and moved to NMCC in 2004 after developing Alzheimer's. She received excellent care there, for which her family will be eternally grateful. She loved to garden, shop, cook, attend church and do activities with her students and neighborhood children. She was always lending a helping hand, quietly, to someone in need. Dazzle stressed the importance of education to everyone, especially young people. She raised her only child as a single mother. During the 1950s and 1960s, she and her siblings were very active in the civil rights movement. Dazzle is survived by her daughter, Dr. Ethel Moore of Harlem; brother, Vernon (Juanita) Mott of Fredericksburg, Va.; sisters, Kay Abdullah of Oxon Hill, Md., and Linda (Melvin) Wallace of Capital Heights, Md.; aunts, Juanita Curry and Sabron Guiden both of Little Rock, Ark.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Mattison; ex-husband, Arthur Moore; daughter, Rosemary Moore; three sisters and brothers James Jr (Marguerite) and William H. Mott.
