VIVIAN CLARKE NALIVKA obituary

Vivian Clarke Nalivka, 89, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home, with Pastor Byron Keith officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles Club immediately after the services at the graveside. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Vivian was born May 12, 1920, in Volt, Mont., to Blenda and Lyle Clarke. As a graduate of Havre High School, Vivian was one of five young women selected to represent the United States as a delegate to the Juliet Lowe Chalet in Switzerland to participate in the 1938 International Friendship Conference for the Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. She graduated from Northern Montana College and met her husband, Paul Nalivka, while attending the University of Chicago. Paul and Vivian returned to Havre after World War II and together had nine children. They started making pizza at the Model Grocery and in 1960 opened Nalivka's Pizza Kitchen now operated by several of their children and grandchildren. Throughout her life Vivian was active in the community, particularly with her continued work with Girl Scouts in Havre and the state of Montana. She directed Brownie and Girl Scout Camps for more than 20 years at Camp Kiwanis and is lovingly remembered as “Cappy” by many young women whose lives she influenced over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; and sisters, Lylah and Mozella; husband, Paul Nalivka; son, Paul Jr .; daughter, VeeAnn Lammerding; grandchildren. Kelley, Laurie and Robyn Nalivka and daughter in-law Elaine (David) Nalivka. Vivian is survived by her son, David (Chong) Nalivka of Boise, Idaho; son-in-law, Jim (VeeAnn) Lammerding of Havre, Mont., son, Lyle (Katie) Nalivka of Butte, Mont .; son, Pete Nalivka of Butte, Mont .; daughters, Gay Nalivka, Renee Nalivka and Mary (Pat) Jensen all of Havre, Mont., and daughter, Sharon (Ed) Hancock of Vaughn, Mont .; grandchildren, Tracie LaCroix of Billings, Mont., Rocky Pak of Los Angeles, J P (Norea) Nalivka of San Francisco, Tosha (Mike) McCullar; Jennifer Sorensen, Roman Nalivka and Suzi (Willie Hackman) Nalivka all of Butte, Mont., Matthew, Seth and Paul Jensen all of Havre, Mont .; great-grandchildren, Kelly (Monique) LaCroix, Ben LaCroix and Sara LaCroix all of Billings, Mont., Kaelyn and Kennedy McCullar of Butte, Mont., John Winchell and Chase Hackman of Butte, Mont. ,Jandi and Jennessa Sorensen and Brittany and Raevyn Jessen all of Butte, Mont .; and one greatngreat-granddaughter, Violet of Billings, Mont. Vivian is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, loving caregivers and many other children of her heart. Vivian was an extraordinary woman and well loved by many people. She lived her life as a testimony of her faith in God and demonstrated that faith by the boundless, unconditional love that she gave to so many. She will be greatly missed.
