Ice Hawks sweep rival Americans

It's been a busy last two weeks for the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team. This past weekend, the Ice Hawks made their home debut with a pair of victories over the Great Falls Americans at the Havre Ice Dome, and Havre wasted little time in putting the puck in the net. On Friday night, the Ice Hawks beat the rival Americans 6-4 behind two goals from senior Kyle Miller. Jon Austin, Danny Roe and Brayden Grimson also had goals and an assist, while Andrew Bradshaw scored a goal, and Brandt Miller and Jesse Majeres combined for three assists. Will DeVries was outstanding in goal for the Ice Hawks, with 29 saves. Havre's high-scoring attack continued on Saturday as the Ice Hawks beat the Americans 8-4. DeVries came up big again stopping 28-of-32 shots on goal. Miller put in two goals and also had an assist, as did Majeres. Brandt Miller added two goals, while Roe had four points, with a goal and three assists. Dillon McLain also had a goal and two assists, Tyler Miller had two assists, and Chase Rolf and Justin Jensen each added an assist in Havre's blowout victory. A week earlier, the Ice Hawks traveled to Sidney for a tournament where they went 1-2. Havre opened the tourney on Nov. 27 with a 10-7 loss to Estevan, Sask,. In the loss, Roe had a huge game, racking up four goals and an assist while Austin had two goals and an assist. Tyler Miller scored a goal, and Bradshaw and Nic Sunchild combined for three assists. DeVries was tested between the pipes and stopped 40 shots. On Nov. 28, the Ice Hawks suffered a second loss, this time to Notre Dame Academy from Wilcox, Sask. The game went to overtime, with Havre coming out on the short end of a 7-6 decision. Roe led the way with two goals, while Majeres had a goal and two assists, Tyler Miller scored a goal and an assist as did Bradshaw. Kyle Miller also scored a gaol, while Rolf had two assists, and Grimson and Austin had one each. DeVries stopped 33 shots. Havre's final game in Sidney was 9-3 win over Watford City, ND on Nov. 29. Roe was again spectacular, totaling six points with five goals and an assist. Kyle Miller, Grimson, Austin and Majeres each had a goal and an assist, while Tony Morsette and Nate Welch each had an assist, and DeVries had 16 saves. Havre (5-2) will be back in action this weekend with two games against the Butte Blues.
