BETTY JANE HENDERSON HEAD obituary

Betty Jane (Henderson) Head, 88, died Sunday morning at Northern Montana Care Center of natural causes.

Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel, with Pastor John Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorials in Betty's honor may be made to the First Baptist Church. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Eagles Club immediately after the graveside service. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Betty was born April 9, 1921, south of Chinook, Mont., on the family farm, to Carrie and Martha (Holston) Henderson. She attended country school south of Chinook. She moved out West to work as a welder in the ship yards during World War II. This is where she met Herman Head. The two married, Oct. 14, 1944, in Portland, Ore. After the war the couple moved to Havre, Mont., in 1948 where Herman was employed with the Great Northern Railroad. Betty stayed home and raised her daughter, Martha. Betty and Herman were rock hounds. They made a hobby out of this passion. They both shared and enjoyed looking for sapphires, tumbling and polishing rocks. They would make various things with their beautiful rock collection, such as tables and jewelry. The couple also enjoyed hunting and fishing together. Betty was an excellent cook and was always ready to feed you when you would come over to visit. She was a strong woman who had great faith in her Lord. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Head in 1983; her daughter, Martha Bailey in 2001; her son-in-law, Howard Bailey in 2009; four sisters, six brothers and a great-granddaughter, Christina Culbertson, in 2001. Betty is survived by her granddaughter, Betty Ranes of Havre, Mont.; two grandsons, Mike (Wendy) Bailey of Havre, Mont., and Steve (Brenda Friede) Bailey of Havre, Mont.; great-grandchildren, Melissa Bailey, Chad Ranes, Tiffany Ranes, Kelsie Bailey, Steven Bailey, Heidie Culbertson, Lorren Mack and Samantha
