Breaking sports: Carroll 65, Lights 13

The second-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints took advantage of two MSU-Northern turnovers in the first two minutes of the game en route to a dominating 65-13 win over the Lights Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium.

The Lights fumbled the opening kickoff which led to the first of 58 unanswered points by the Saints. Northern didn't score until the :36 mark of the thrid quarter when Stephen Silva ran in from nine yards out. MSU-N freshman Travis Dean also threw a TD pass to Kyle Kercher in the fourth quarter, but the Lights committed five turnovers on a day when Carroll staked to a 44-0 halftime lead.

The loss was Northern's worst loss in the last seven years and dropped the Lights to 1-4 on the season. Carroll improved to 5-0, and both the Saints and Lights have byes coming this week.
