Mariani shining early on

Marc Mariani is already making himself feel right at home on the Tennessee Titan's practice fields at Baptist Sports Park in Nashville.

Just two days into Titan's training camp, Mariani is apparently making quite an impression.

The Titan's opened training camp on Saturday, and it was noted that Mariani hauled in several catches.

But it was Sunday's practice in which Mariani stood out.

The Titan's official practice report from Sunday notes Mariani made several key catches, including a 45-yard catch from former Texas standout and current Titan's backup quarterback Chris Simms. The diving stab caught the attention of several Titan's bloggers, who all noted it was the play of the day in just Tennessee's second official practice.

Mariani's play also caught the attention of head coach Jeff Fisher who was quoted on the Titan's web site.

"Yeah, he (Mariani) had some catches, made a couple good catches today. In that one period I think he had three catches, one he extended and finished the catch, so he's coming on," Fisher said.

The practice report also noted Mariani has been fielding most of the punts so far. He could be in for a battle for return duties with USC rookie Damien Williams. Tennessee's second-round pick in the 2010 draft, Williams is currently on the PUP (Physically Unable to Participate) list and is not participating in full drills at this time.

Note: Fans can continue to follow Mariani's progress in training camp with full reports in Friday's Havre Daily News.
