Ponies star in Cut Bank

The first time the majority of the Havre High boys and girls varsity track teams were on display and the Blue Ponies didn't disappoint. On Thursday afternoon, HHS participated in the Cut Bank Track Meet, and the Pony boys came away with first-place honors, while the HHS girls finished fourth. The Havre boys scored 97 points, finishing 12 points ahead of host Cut Bank. Choteau was third with 67.5 points. Chester/JI scored two points and Rocky Boy scored one. Individually, HHS had just two winners on the day, but the Ponies' depth paid off. John Perrodin captured the 300 hurdles and Jake Myers won the pole vault. Perrodin also finished second in the 110 hurdles, while Evan Flathers was third and Michael Richards was sixth. Flathers also placed sixth in the 300 hurdles. The Ponies were also dominant in the pole vault with Tyson Gruber coming in second and Layne Waid third. Perrodin rounded out a strong scoring day for the Ponies by finishing third in the 400 meters, while David Jeffery finished fifth in the same race. Jeffery also placed sixth in the 800 meters, while Tyson Kultgen was fifth in the 200 and Kade Barsotti was third in the 3,200 meters. In the field, the Ponies got multiple scoring from Will DeVries and freshman Thurman Holdsclaw. DeVries placed third in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Jim Beemer added a fourth-place in the shot put. Holdsclaw was fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump for HHS. On the girls side, Cut Bank captured first-place honors with 132 points with Choteau in second at 128 and Cascade a distant third at 68 points. The Blue Ponies finished fourth with 63 points, while Chester/J-I scored 20 points and Rocky Boy had 12. Sammy Evans and Madison Ruff both had good scoring days for the HHS girls. Evans placed first in the triple jump, third in the high jump, third in the 1,600 meters and fifth in the 400 meters for the Ponies. Ruff joined Evans by placing fourth in the high jump. She also took sixth in the shot put and fourth in the javelin. Senior Karla Hellegaard added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump for the Ponies. Mikell Kinsella also scored twice for the Ponies by finishing fourth in the 800 meters and sixth in the 400. Katie Christianson also scored twice, finishing fifth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 3,200. Shelby O'Neil was fourth in the 3,200, while Alexia Olson added a fifth in the long jump and Ashlynn Van Voast was sixth in the 300 hurdles. The Ponies will be back on track on Wednesday at the Cal Wearley Invitational in Havre.
