MAT sets new comedy auditions for Tuesday, Wednesday

Havre's local acting troupe is gearing up for another production, with auditions for the black comedy "Mr. Marmalade" by Noah Haidle set for Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Mr. Marmalade" is scheduled to run Oct. 22-23 and 27-30 and Nov. 3-6, according to the Montana Actors' Theatre website.

The fall production of the "Diary of Anne Frank," also produced by the Havre troupe last spring, is set to run in Havre Sept. 23-25.

"Mr. Marmalade" is a play depicting a four-year-old girl — all parts will be played by adults — and her imaginary friend, Mr. Marmalade.

In a story of growing up in modern society, not only does her imaginary friend have to squeeze time for her out of his busy schedule, he also is a drug addict, is a fan of pornography and beats up his — also imaginary — personal assistant.

The play will be directed by MAT acting veteran Kristi Zuelke.

The play, which has foul language and explicit themes, has parts for four men and three women.

The open auditions start at 7 p.m. at the theater in the west end of Cowan Hall on the Montana State University-Northern campus.
