Theresa McGillis

Theresa McGillis, 79, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Big Sandy Nursing Home of natural causes. Her wake service will begin Sunday at the Lutheran Mission with her Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 5, also at the Lutheran Mission, with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Boy Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Theresa was born May 14, 1931, at Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in Montana to Roy and Cecelia (Kennewash) Houle. She was raised and educated in Rocky Boy. In 1946, she married Ned Sun Child, and the couple lived in Rocky Boy and Great Falls, Mont. The couple later divorced, and she then married Henry McGillis.

Theresa was a Sun Dancer and participated in traditional services at Rocky Boy. She also enjoyed attending rodeos and beadings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry McGillis; her brothers, John, William and Robert Houle and Charles Bacon; one sister, Marion Small Bakke.

She is survived by her sons, Roy "Jiggs" Sun Child of Rocky Boy, Mont., Lloyd (Gaye) Sun Child of Great Falls, Mont., and Clyde "Smiley" (Karen) Sun Child of Rocky Boy, Mont .; her daughters, Arlene (Vaughn) Bodine of San Antonio, Texas, Doreen Sun Child of Rocky Boy, Mont .; Cindy Sun Child of Spokane, Wash .; her adopted sisters, Delia Demontiny, Bessie Chandler and Florence Gourley all of Rocky Boy, Mont .; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
