More than half of the seats were filled at Monday night's Havre City Council meeting to see the council present the Community Service Award to Bonnie Bennett.

The council honored Bennett for her nearly 35 years of service to more than a half-dozen charities and non-profit organizations in Havre.

"My work is my thank-you back to the town, because Havre has helped out so much with my charities over the years," Bennett said.

Council gave Bennett a plaque for her achievements and a collection of gift certificates from appreciative businesses.

Fellow volunteers from many of the organizations she has worked with came out to talk about her contributions over the years.

One volunteer from the Salvation Army stepped forward to read letters of congratulations from prior program leaders.

Boy Scouts came out to thank Bennett for her helping in fundraising for 27 years, when the current Scout leader was a scout himself.

Bennett had to leave the meeting early, however.

She was late to a Girl Scout fundraising meeting.

"You can't say no to the kids. That's my slogan," Bennett said.
