MSU-N rodeo teams put fall in the books

The rodeo season is done for the Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams, at least for a few months.

The Lights and Skylights were on the road the last two weeks, traveling to rodeos in Miles City Sept. 23-25 and Dillon last weekend.

Now the Lights and Skylights will take the winter off until the Big Sky Region spring circuit begins again in April.

In Miles City, the Skylights finished in sixth place overall, while the Lights finished seventh.

On the women's side, Havre's Kassy Brough had a great rodeo finishing third in the average in barrel racing with a total of 35.28. Brough finished third in both the long and short go-arounds.

In team roping, the duo of Lacey Davidson and Sheena Herzog took 10th in the long go with a time of 22.3, while the co-ed team of JE Cooley and Natalie Burke took eighth with a time of 16.2.

On the men's side in Miles City, Dennis Barta and Dillon Wilkinson both tied for fifth place in the average with a 5.6. The duo tied for fourth in the long go with that 5.6.

After Miles City, Northern had an even stronger showing last weekend in Dillon at the UM-Western Rodeo.

The Skylights had their highest finish of the season coming in second, while the Lights placed fourth.

Barta and Jade Nystrom finished fourth in the team-roping average with a total time of 7.5. The duo won the long go around with that blazing time. Northern also got a first in the average from Davidson. She finished second in both the long and short go's in the breakaway roping. Her total time of 7.6 was good enough to take home the average. Charlie Mack finished tied for fifth in the average in bull riding after he scored a 61 in the long go.

Wilkinson and Brough also had strong first performances in Dillon. Wilkinson finished second in the long go in steer wrestling with a time of 4.5, and Brough was second in the barrels with a time of 18.14. Barta had a great all-around weekend as well. He finished sixth in the long go in tie-down roping with a time of 15.5, while Malia VandenBos tied for eighth in the barrels with a 18.40.
