MAT holds auditions for Greek tragedy

Montana Actors' Theatre is holding auditions Saturday and Tuesday for a classic Greek tragedy, "Antigone" by Sophocles.

The play depicts the story of a Greek family torn apart by civil war. Two brothers die in battle against each other, with one trying to take, and the other trying to keep, the throne of the city of Thebes.

When Antigone, a sister of the brothers, breaks the law by performing a burial ceremony on her brother who attacked the city when the city law says he cannot be buried, her uncle, now the king of Thebes, must decide whether to judge her by the laws of man or the laws of the Greek gods.

The play, which has parts for 20 men and women, is being directed by Casey Pratt. No experience or prepared audition is necessary.

The auditions will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the theater in Cowan Hall on the Montana State University-Northern campus.
