WILLIAM D. KAUFMAN obituary

William D. Kaufman, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home in Havre of natural causes. Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Brad Ulgenes officiating. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church immediately after the service. Memorial contributions in William's honor may be made to a memorial of one's choice. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. William was born March 20, 1931, in Chinook, Mont., to Ted and Mabel (LaFountaine) Kaufman. He was raised and educated in Chinook graduating from Chinook High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 in Butte, Mont. He was honorably discharged in September 1953 as a private first class. He returned home to Chinook and began working at the Montana Department of Transportation. He married Elaine Sargent on Oct. 8, 1956, at the First Lutheran Church in Havre. Together they made their home in Havre. William retired as the maintenance supervisor of the Montana Department of Transportation in 1993. Bill was an excellent carpenter and built his own home of which he was very proud. He enjoyed working on small engines. His life motto that he lived by was "God, family and a good work ethic." He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Kaufman; his sister, Alice, and two brothers, Vernon and Jack. William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine Kaufman of Havre, Mont.;. his father, Ted (Margaret) Kaufman of Chinook, Mont.; his daughter, Jan Mari Anderson of Havre, Mont.; two sisters, Carol Lux of Chinook, Mont.; and Eudora (Eugene) Peterson of Hingham, Mont.; and two grandsons, Lauren J. Anderson and Curran W. Anderson.
