Lester H. Bunton, 77, died of natural causes on Friday, under the care of Peace Hospice at a local care facility. Lester was a longtime resident of Great Falls and Havre.

Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday at Croxford Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Croxford Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Post 1087 on 10th Ave. S. Lester was born July 31, 1933, in Havre, Mont., to Harry and Alvina Bunton. He was raised and educated in Havre. In 1950, at the age of 17, he joined the Air Force to serve in the Korean War and earned the rank of senior air policeman.

He was honorably discharged with a good conduct medal and a national defense service medal in August 1954 and moved back to Havre, where he met the love of his life, Joy Champagne, and they were married Sept. 7, 1957. They were married for 53 years, Lester worked as a meat cutter for Buttrey Foods for 45 years and retired in 1996.

Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to stay home and work in his yard and was always inventing and building things in his shop.

Lester is survived by his wife, Joy; his sons, Jim (Bobbi) Bunton, Lester (Beth) Bunton Jr. and Buddy (Chana) Bunton; his daughters Linda Golden, Jeannie (Joe) Garrity and Beverly Bunton; a brother, Larry (Jan) Bunton; and a sister, Suzy Sauer. Lester is also survived by his 15 grandchildren: Jamie,

Jennifer, Jessie, David, Jeremy, Randy, Stacey, Hannah, Jonah, Amanda, Levi, Amanda, Brandon, Clara and Ethan; his 11 great-grandchildren: Levi, Bradly, Devin, Annie, Eriena, Baily, Sydney, Aiyana, Aliyah, Sakima and Syelas; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents.

He will be loved and missed very, very much.
