Spring sports begin today

Snow may still be on the ground and basketball season just got over, but area high school athlete who participate in spring sports will get to work today. Today marks the first day that high schools can begin practicing for spring sports, and in Havre, Blue Pony track and field, tennis and softball teams will begin preparations for season-opening events. The Havre High varsity boys and girls tennis teams will open up regular season competition at home this season, hosting Cut Bank in a dual on March 27. Blue Pony varsity track teams will start their season on April 1 in Cut Bank and the Havre High girls softball team will open its varsity schedule April 2 at the Great Falls Jamboree. Track and field will make its debut in Havre on April 7 with the annual Cal Wearley Invitational. The meet will be the first held on the Havre Middle School Track's brand new surface, which was installed last fall. The Blue Pony softball team is scheduled to make its home debut April 10 against Browning and Butte Central. Other important spring dates in Havre include the Havre High Invitational Tennis Tournament on April 10, the Havre Lions Invitational Track Meet on April 17, and the District 9C Track Meet which will be held in May. Area teams which begin practice today can officially begin competition on March 27. The weather is expected to cooperate some, with temperatures warming, at least for the remainder of this week.
