John Allemeier

John Allemeier of Havre passed away peacefully Sept. 13, at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, ending his battle with asbestosis

His memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Lutheran Church in Havre. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

John was born May 21, 1926, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, to Arnold and Maude (Lehman). He served on the USS Ottawa during World War II. After being discharged, he married Janet (Windle) of Lima, Ohio, in 1947.

In 1952 John brought his bride on an adventure to Rocky Boy, where he worked at the Lutheran Mission. They quickly fell in love with the Bear Paw Mountains and Montana, and the short adventure turned into a lifetime of living in the Havre area. He never tired of watching the sunrise over the Bear Paws from the home he built nearly 40 years ago. John loved the people of Montana and was always willing to lend a hand.

In 1984, he retired from the 778th Radar Station north of Havre and engaged himself in a life of volunteer activities. He enjoyed square dancing, camping, playing cards and his service work. Those who knew him would say John was always helpful, handy and full of humor. He loved to hear and tell a good yarn and never missed an opportunity to pull someone's leg. His presence in the world will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Janet; his son Randy, daughter-in-law Kim and grandson John "Kyle" Allemeier, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and granddaughter, Krystal Boyum, and three great-grandchildren of Chinook, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his children, Elizabeth and George; brother, Paul; and sister Norma (Guy).

John's family wishes to thank all the many friends who supported him and enriched his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Lutheran Church in Havre, or the North Central Senior Citizens Center in Havre.
