Hi-Line Jobless rates decline

Montana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged in July at 7.3 percent.

The national unemployment rate also remained unchanged at 9.5 percent.

"The unchanged unemployment rate suggests that employers remain uncertain about the future and are hesitant to add more workers until indications of a stronger recovery emerge," said Labor Commissioner Keith Kelly.

As has been the case through the recession, the jobless rate in Montana was lower than the rest of the nation, and the rate on the Hi-Line was lower than the statewide figures.

Montana employment estimates were mixed for July. Payroll employment estimates indicate a job gain of 1,000 jobs following a gain of 800 jobs in June. Job gains were widespread across most industries, with the exception of the government and construction industries, which both posted job losses in July.

The jobless rates for Hi-Line counties:

• Hill County: 5.5 percent of the workforce was jobless. That amounts to 453 people. In June, 6 percent of the workforce was unemployed.

• Blaine County: 5.2 percent of the workforce had no jobs. That is 144 people. In June, the jobless rate was 5.6 percent.

• Liberty County: Thirty-three people were out of work, making July's unemployment rate 4.7 percent, compared to 5.1 percent in June.

• Chouteau County: 5.8 percent of the workforce was jobless, compared to 4.6 percent in June.
