Candidate says she too backs right to bear arms

Editor:

I'm writing this letter in response to a letter to the editor in the Blaine County Journal that was posted recently.

It was the letter endorsing Rep. Warburton by the Montana Shooting Sports Association. The article made some very good points in the reasons to endorse my opponent.

Gary Marbut, president of the MSSA, stated that Wendy "thinks the right to keep and bear arms and hunting are important."

He also mentioned that his association "recommends candidates in only those races where information is available on significant issues."

It is nice to know that my opponent does support "our cherished right to bear arms." I agree with her.

When I was asked to run, it was a very unexpected but exciting opportunity. Luckily, I am fortunate enough to have the advice of some great legislators, some of whom held this very seat for years.

I wasn't able to fill out all of the multitudes of surveys, and as Gary Marbut said, "Wendy's opponent declined to return MSSA's Legislative Candidate Questionnaire, which deprives HD 34 voters of useful information about the candidate, and which MSSA interprets programmatically as either disinterest in our cherished right to bear arms or outright hostility to the right to bear arms".

I am amazed at how much information can be gleaned from not responding to a survey.

I was raised in a hunting family and married into another hunting family. They also own hunting land, and we understand the importance of issues around hunting and land owners. My three girls and nephews shot their first deer on Seidel land. Scott and I joined the Havre Trap Club a few years ago, and I have won a few awards for top woman shooter. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the club and shooting sports. I also have had my concealed weapon license for a number of years.

So rest assured, voters of HD 34, I too believe in our "cherished right to bear arms."
