Bear Paw death likely a suicide

The Hill County sheriff said this morning that a death in Bear's Paw Mountains appears to be a suicide.

"There was nothing criminal out there," Sheriff Don Brostrom said. "Everything initially appears to (show) a suicide."

He said the body of the victim, whose name had not yet been released this morning, was found just past Bear Paw Lake at 8:20 a.m. Friday.

The Montana Criminal Investigation Division helped with the investigation at Brostrom's request.

The investigation found no evidence of foul play. Brostrom said evidence found at the scene also supports the conclusion that the death was a suicide.

"All preliminary investigation, including preliminary postmortem investigation at the (state) crime lab pointed toward suicide," he said.

The results of an autopsy being conducted at the state crime lab are still pending, he said.
