Jaycees fireworks show still a go this Fourth of July

A Havre tradition continues this year, despite a case of theft and arson that threatened to end it.

The night display for the Fourth of July, sponsored by the Havre Jaycees, will light up the sky Sunday, July 4, at d a r k a t the Gre a t No r the r n Fairgrounds.

A holiday favorite, the show is funded through the sale of fireworks from the organization's fireworks booth.

This year's display will be one of, if not the, largest, said Charmene Plum, a Jaycee.

"And that is because of all the support we got last year," she said.

Last year, the booth burned to the ground, destroying its contents that remained after three Havre men stole a large portion of the fireworks.

Donations from area residents and Jaycess across the country helped the show shine shortly after the incident.

A new, bright-red booth built with the help of Trevor Smith, is open on 2nd Street West beside Frontier Land and Landscape.

Fireworks will be sold from noon to midnight each day through July 4.
