Volunteers make life in Gildford very rewarding

Editor: Gildford celebrated 100 years on June 5. It was fitting to remember the homesteaders and the sacrifices they made to settle this area.

I want to commend the committee that planned this event. I know a lot of work went on this previous year to get everything planned out.

One of the things I have been so appreciative of since moving to Gildford 30 years ago is the sense of community and willingness of people to volunteer their time for many causes. It is these people who clear the roads in the winter, volunteer for the fire department, take care of the local park and serve on water, school and church boards among other things.

Thank you for the work that went into spiffing up the town of Gildford this spring. I don't want to name names because I would invariably leave someone out, but please know all your work is appreciated. I would also like to thank another group that is near and dear to my heart — our local emergency response crew.

These volunteers are such a blessing and such a valuable asset to our communities. Again, thank you so much for all the volunteers who give their time and talents to make these communities work.
