Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup

It was an interesting weekend of volleyball on the Hi-Line, especially in the District 6C East.

The weekend got underway on Thursday with a pair of nonconference matches on the Hi-Line.

North Star downed 6C West rival Dutton-Brady by scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-20. The win was the start of a weekend in which the Knights saw matches against Hays-Lodge Pole cancelled on Friday night.

Thursday night was also the continuation of a tough week for the Chinook Sugarbeeters. The Beeters lost to District 2B power Malta on Tuesday, then they dropped a nonconference match to Northern C rival Fort Benton on Thursday. The Longhorns beat the Beeters by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25 and 15-7. Fort Benton seized control of the decisive fifth game and held on for the dramatic win.

Chinook's difficulties of a long week continued at home on Friday night as the Beeters were toppled by visiting Belt in four games. The Huskies took care of the Beeters by scores of 25-15, 14-25, 25-11 and 25-16.

In a match in which each game was dominant by the winning team, Chinook got six kills and five blocks from Kayla Hanson, while Taryn Norby added 12 digs and three aces.

Big Sandy also picked up a win over Centerville this week. The Pioneers beat the Miners by scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-18 in Centerville.

MacKenzie Jenkins had nine kills and four digs and Brooke Leader added 11 assists and six aces for the Pioneers.

In Class B action Friday night, the Rocky Boy Morning Stars were swept by the Conrad Cowgirls in Conrad. The Cowgirls beat the Morning Stars by scores of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-15. Caitlin Standing Rock had two kills for Rocky Boy.

Meanwhile, the Chester/J-I Hawks are starting to pick up some steam in the District 6C West.

On Friday night, the Hawks started a two-game weekend sweep with a win over Dutton-Brady in Dutton. The Hawks beat the Diamondbacks by scores of 25-7, 25-15 and 25-21.

In the dominant win, C/J-I was led by Jennie Ghekiere's six kills, while Nikole Wolfe had 22 assists.

The Hawks followed the Friday night win with another 6C victory at home on Saturday. In Chester, the Hawks took care of arch rival Valier by scores of 27-25, 15-25, 25-18 and 25-19.

C/J-I played hard in four game for the win, and the Hawks got nine kills from Ghekiere. Jimi Sangwin added 11 digs and six aces.

Saturday was not as kind to Big Sandy or Rocky Boy, but Chinook rebounded with a conference win over Hays-Lodge Pole. The Beeters swept the T-Birds by scores of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-22.

But in Highwood, the Pioneers were beaten in four games by Northern C power Highwood. The Mountaineers downed Big Sandy by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-13 and 25-15.

MacKenzie Jenkins had 10 kills and 14 digs in the loss, while Molly Herron had all five of Big Sandy's aces.

In District 2B play, the Morning Stars were defeated by Class B powerhouse Choteau in three short games. The Bulldogs, playing at home, beat the Morning Stars by scores of 25-3, 25-10 and 25-17.

Rocky Boy improved as the match went on, but the Bulldogs were just too much to handle. Star Broncho had two kills in the loss for Rocky Boy.
