Breaking news: Council approves $15.7M preliminary budget

The Havre City Council Monday approved a preliminary budget of more than $15,7 million dollars, with a public meeting on the budget set for two weeks water and a vote on approving the final budget two days later.

City Clerk Lowell Swenson said that the budget, overall, is close to what it was last year. The final tally is more than $500,000 less, but that is primarily because the city had budgeted for several projects last year which have been completed and are not in this budget, he said.

The council unanimously approved the budget and scheduled a public hearing in City Hall for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13.

The vote on the final budget will be held in City Hall at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15.
