Breaking Sports: Eastern Oregon 39, Lights 36

For the second time this season, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers crushed a brilliant first-half performance by the Montana State University-Northern Lights. Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium, the Mountaineers outscored Northern 32-2 in the second half to pull off a miraculous 39-36 comeback win. EOU pulled off a similar comeback last month against the Lights in LaGrande, Ore.

The Lights led 34-7 at halftime behind five touchdown passes from Derek Lear. Lear threw two scores to Matt Stuart, two to Brandon O'Brien and one to Stephen Silva. Northern's defense forced Eastern into six first-half turnovers as well. But the Mounties got the last word as MSU-N's only points in the second half came by way of a safety, and EOU QB Chris Ware threw three TD passes in the final 30 minutes to help overtake the Lights, including a 45-yard game-winner with 2:59 left to play.

With the loss, the Lights fell to 3-5 on the season. Saturday was MSU-N's home finale. The Lights will travel to Rocky Mountain College next Saturday.
