Elections set across Hi-Line

While many of the elections in north-central Montana were decided in June, leaving no opponent for the primary winner in many races, some contested elections are still up in the air in Blaine, Chouteau and Liberty counties.

Three regional or statewide races will be on the ballot Tuesday in those counties, including the three-way race for Montana's sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In that race, incumbent Republican Denny Rehberg of Billings faces Democrat Dennis McDonald of Melville and Libertarian Mike Fellows of Missoula.

In the race for the seat in Public Service Commission District 1, Travis Kavulla faces Don Ryan. Both are from Great Falls.

In the nonpartisan race for Supreme Court Justice 4, Beth Baker of Helena faces Nels Swandal of Wilsall.

The four ballot issues in this year's election also will be voted on Tuesday.

In localized races, the seat for Blaine County commissioner has incumbent Democrat Don Swenson facing Republican Frank DePriest. In legislative races, in House District 34 incumbent Rep. Wendy Warburton, R-Havre, faces Democrat Dana Sapp Seidel.

In Senate District 17, Republican Rowlie Hutton faces Speaker of the House Rep. Bob Bergren, D-Havre, who cannot run for re-election in House District 33 due to term limits.

Incumbent Sen. Ken "Kim" Hansen cannot run for re-election in SD 17 due to term limits.

In Liberty County, the only contested races other than Supreme Court, PSC and U.S. Representative is the race for Justice of the Peace. In that nonpartisan race incumbent Neal Eveland faces Holly Frederickson.

In Chouteau County, Sheriff Vern Burdick, a Republican, faces Democrat Edward Fike.

In legislative races, in the north-eastern part of the county, incumbent Sen. Jim Peterson, R-Buffalo, faces Democrat Dan Teigen of Teigen in Senate District 15.

In House District 29, Democrat Kurt Myllymaki of Stanford faces Republican Ryan Osmundson of Buffalo.

Incumbent Rep. Edward "Ed" Butcher, R-Winifred, withdrew his candidacy in the race for that seat before the primary.
