The polls open at 7 a.m. and votes will be taken until 8 p.m.

In local races, Speaker of the House Rep. Bob Bergren, D-Havre, who cannot run for re-election to the House due to term limits, faces Republican Rowlie Hutton in the race for Senate District 17 in Hill and Blaine counties.

In the race for the U.S. House, Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., faces two challengers, Democrat Dennis McDonald and Libertarian Mike Fellows.

In contested county races, Democrat James "Jim" Catt Jr. and independent Jeff LaVoi have squared off in the race for the Hill County commissioner position.

Audrey Barger and Cathy Chinske Huston are running in the nonpartisan race for Hill County Justice of the Peace.

In the race for the PSC seat, Republican Travis Kavulla and Democrat Don Ryan, both from Great Falls, are on the ballot.

In the nonpartisan race for Supreme Court Justice, Beth Baker of Helena faces Nels Swandal of Wilsall.

Some of the voting already has occurred. The Hill County Clerk and Recorder's office reports that as of Friday, it had issued 2,049 absentee ballots and 1,702 had been returned at that time.

Issuing absentee ballots ended at noon today, and all absentee ballots must be returned to the Clerk and Recorder's office by the end of polling, 8 p.m. Tuesday, to be counted. Mailed ballots received after 8 p.m. Tuesday will not be counted.

Late registration temporarily ended at noon today, although late registration at the Clerk and Recorder's Office will take place again from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

At Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, two polling places have been established for different elections. The Hill County election, including the county offices and the U.S. Representative race, will take place at the Chippewa Cree Wellness Center gymnasium.

The election for the Chippewa Cree Tribal council, which still was set to run as of this morning pending a decision by the Tribal Court on a request for an injunction due to a protest on the primary, is set to run at the Old Stone Child College gymnasium.
