Katheryn 'Kay' Syth

Katheryn M. (Waymire) Syth, 87, a longtime resident of Great Falls, died of advanced Alzheimer's disease on Oct. 18, 2010, at her daughter's home in Havre.

A private family graveside service was held at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls.

Kay, the youngest of eight children born to Albert and Kitty Waymire, was born on March 10, 1923. She was raised on the homestead southwest of Geyser and was educated in Geyser. She married Walter Culbertson on Nov. 30, 1940. They had two children. They later divorced. Although Kay worked most of her life as a waitress in several of Great Falls finest supper clubs and flagged for Neilson Smith Road Construction, she found time to enjoy life. She went fishing, played bingo with her friends, loved to go dancing, enjoyed her yard, played an occasional slot machine in Las Vegas and loved to spend time with her family.

She married her soul mate and the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Syth, on Dec. 26, 1969. They spent many years as snowbirds and enjoyed going south during the winter months. They enjoyed each other's company above everything else for 36 years. They were truly made for each other.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her husband, Bob Syth, in 2005; and a grandson, Mark W. Vukasin.

Kay is survived by a son, Lyle (Donna) Culbertson of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a daughter, Ruth (Bob) Vukasin of Havre; two step-daughters: Kaye Bonner and Bobbie Burns; four grandchildren, Robert Vukasin, Rex Vukasin, and Cindy Vukasin all of Havre, Mont., and Brenda Culbertson of Las Vegas, Nev.; three great-grandsons, Aaron Gilbert, Mark A. Vukasin and Christopher Vukasin.
