For an entire fall, the Chinook Sugarbeeters dominated the District 6C East volleyball regular season.

But the North Star Knights certainly saved their best for last. On Friday night in Rudyard, the Knights defeated the Sugarbeeters in four games to capture the District 6C East championship.

North Star beat Chinook by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-19. All four games were close throughout, the Knights played inspired volleyball en route to the district title.

Kali Twedt and Lisa Carlon combined for five aces for North Star, while Shelby Lipp had seven blocks. Twedt and Lipp combined for 18 kills. The Beeters got 11 kills and 17 digs from sophomore Taryn Norby in the championship match.

Chinook got to the championship by beating Big Sandy by scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 28-26 in the third-place match. In the sweep of the Pioneers Saturday afternoon, the Beeters got 10 kills and four aces from Laramie Pursley, while Big Sandy was paced by MacKenzie Jenkins with six kills, seven digs and two aces. Hannah Williams added four kills and seven blocks in the loss.

North Star, Big Sandy and Chinook all move on to this weekend's North C tournament.

In Thursday's first round in Rudyard, Chinook opened with a win over Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-14, 25-9 and 25-7, while North Star downed Big Sandy by scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-16.

In loser-out play Thursday, the Pioneers knocked the T-Birds out of the tournament with a three-game sweep. Big Sandy beat the T-Birds by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-8. In the final match of the day, the Knights put themselves in position to claim the district championship with a semifinal win over Chinook. North Star won by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-19.

Meanwhile, things didn't go as well for Chester/J-I at the District 6C West tournament in Conrad. C/J-I was knocked out of the postseason by Simms on Saturday by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-11. In the loss, the Hawks got five kills, five digs and an ace from Jenni Ghekiere.

C/J-I opened tourney play on Friday with a four-game loss to Sunburst by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 26-24 and 25-16. But the Hawks rebounded to keep their season alive with a five-game win over Dutton-Brady on Friday night.

The Hawks beat the Diamondbacks by scores of 25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 25-13 and 15-10, coming back from a 2-1 deficit.

In the dramatic win, the hawks got 13 kills from Ghekiere and eight aces by Jocelyn Woods.

Sunburst beat Simms for the 6C West champion, while Valier finished third. All three teams will join the three teams from the 6C East tournament at this weekend's Northern C event in Chester.
