Barger wins justice of the peace over Huston

Tuesday's election gave the non-partisan justice of the peace position to Audrey Barger over Cathy Chinske Huston.

Barger received 2,780 votes across 18 precincts, with Chinske Huston taking 2,156. She won in 14 of the 18 precincts, in some with as much as 64 percent of the vote.

Late Tuesday night, Barger thanked the people who helped her succeed.

"Thank you for the warm feelings and support and your faith in me," Barger said. "I am going to do an awesome job."

Barger went on to say she is ready to get to ball rolling and plans on contacting the courthouse today to see what they need her to do.

Unable to respond Tuesday night, Chinske Huston said this morning that she was surprised by the outcome.

"I truly believe I had a lot to offer this position," Huston said. "I have a great job and I'm good at what I do and I'm looking forward to focusing my time and energy back on my family, my work and making Havre a better place to live."
